On Lamictal & Topamax. should i up the dose slowly?

User Profile
I have been taking Topiramate (Topamax) and Lamotrigine for qite a while now.

For maybe about 7 years or so maybe more i have been taking Lamictal (Lamotrigine) 150mg morning and evening and on and off other medicines combined with it because this seams to be the main medicine doing the works.

Since late September 2014 I started taking Topamax 100 morning and evening and it felt like it was the best medicine combination I had ever had and I was absence seizure free sometimes 3 or 4 days at a time sometimes even for a week or two progressively.

Recently in the last two/three months they have gotten worse and and I am seeing about an absence seizure a day which could loose me my job.

Should I up the dose slowly however I no longer have a doctor as I have recently moved?

I also take vitamines to up my sugar levels.

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am glad to help you out.

Topamax that you are taking is not the drug of choice for absence seizures. It is used for complete tonic clonic or partial seizures. Lamotrigine is often used due to its fewer side effects but you need to take other medicines like Ethosuximide and valproic acid as well.

You should not increase the dose of topamax on your own but you should consult your physician and get the other medicines prescribe along with Lamictal.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
