Non-stop bleeding with pill and exhaustion.

I started taking birth control about 6 months ago. I started off taking Loestren24 and had non-stop bleeding. Out of every month I would probably not bleed for a few days. My doctor switched me to Orth Tri Cyclen which has done the same exact thing to me, plus it has made me extremely exhausted. Everyday I sleep until 2:30 in the afternoon and sleep through all the alarms I set. I went back to my doctor about 2 months into Ortho Tri Cyclen and she told me that I needed to atleast go for 3 packs. I called her when I finished my 3rd pack saying nothing had changed and all the symptoms I had been experiencing and she told me to stop taking them immediately. Compared to the other methods of birth control, I prefer the pill. Why am I have these problems and what pill will actually work for me?

klowers, When you bleed like that, you should take an iron (Fe) supplement. Iron carries oxygen in your blood stream. Bleeding will reduce the iron in your body, leading to your exhaustion. The Loestren had iron in the bleeding week pills, that is why it is called Loestren 24 FE.

Breakthrough bleeding is caused by how the pill's hormones interact with your own hormones and cycle. Some women suffer from a lot of breakthrough bleeding. Most for nothing at all. The solution is for your doctor to keep on trying different types of pills (pills with different hormones, not just different brand names). So work with your doctor and remember the Fe supplements!

Best of luck!
