no periods and negative home pregnancy tests

User Profile
I have a 10 month old son. My cycles after he was born became quite regular. But now i haven't had a period since march and no signs of a period. I've taken home pregnancy test since April and all say negative. Any ideas on the delay? Could i be pregnant? To be frank and honest i am not on any sort of birth control and we use (what the kids would call) "pull and a prayer" method.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum. I am really glad to help you out. The possibility of pregnancy needs to be ruled out. To confirm the status of pregnancy, I would suggest you to get your serum HCG levels estimated since this is more specific than urine for pregnancy tests. The HCG (it is a hormone) levels rise only in pregnancy and its presence will confirm the status of your pregnancy.

If it is negative, then other causes of delayed periods needs to be looked into. It can happen because of hormonal imbalance, increased stress, eating disorder, increased smoking, alcohol or caffeine use and medical conditions like PCOS, fibroid, polyps and endometriosis. An ultrasound of the pelvis should help not only in ruling out pregnancy but will also help in confirming the cause of delayed periods. Please do consult a gynecologist for the same. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
