User Profile
My wife was pregnant. It goes to 11 weeks 6 days without any problem. After that the heartbeat was missing in the baby when she had gone to the checkup after 14 week of pregnancy. Doctor had said that there was no heartbeat in the child for around 2 weeks. So after 2 days doctor has done D&C. I want to know the reason for no heartbeat in the baby during Pregnancy.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
Causes for early pregnancy loss could be may including genetic anomalies, congenital birth defects, lack of adequate levels of HCG hormone or progesterone levels, maternal factors like antibodies, Rh incompatibility, adhesions, scarring of uterus etc. To know the exact cause you will need to get further investigations done for your wife and for you. If the fetal heartbeat is not detected in ultrasound scan, pregnancy is considered to be not viable (pregnancy loss). D&C is usually done to ensure no infection sets in and there is minimal uterine scarring such that future pregnancy chances are not compromised. Before trying for next pregnancy, consider giving gap of 6months to 1 year to allow for complete healing.
Take care.
