A recent trip to my asthma Doctor revealed that neither ear is producing any ear wax. I have had ringing in my ears for over 20 years. About 15 years ago had to have tubes in my ears (I am not a child). At 60 years of age, is this yet another bane of aging? I was told to put baby oil on a cotton tip swab and swab each ear canal daily. Is this normal?
thanks Mollie

I have the same symptoms...
Has the baby oil helped? The lack of earwax plus tinnitus has been driving me crazy since my health provider seems to be able to provide an answer.

Nasal spray IPRATROPIUM BROMIDE (.03%)

I was so afraid the was no treatment. This so far has been a LIFE SAVER. Smile

I don't think it was created as treatment for this specific condition in mind, but it works non-the-less.
PS Stay away from nasal sprays that are for decongestion (Ipratropium Bromide nasal spray is not a decongestant.)

This so far is the only thing that has helped my autophony / patulous eustachian tube (when I talked, my own voice was loud in one ear, and I could hear my breathing/ it felt like I had a bucket over my head.)

*I have not noticed any bad side effects so far
*ENT's advice when spraying into nose- two squirts in each nostril. When spraying, it helps A LOT if you spray in the correct direction. This helped me: for each nostril: Visualize the back of your ear and aim the first spray back and outwards with that in mind (as if the spray was entering your nostril and going all the way back to behind your ear.) 2nd squirt: Then angle the bottle inwards towards your nose, spraying deep back into nose again, but this time inwards. (If this is confusing let me know.)

I have just started this regiment and wanted to share what helped me as soon as I could for anyone else suffering. Autophony / PET is HORRIBLE, I know. This stuff works amazingly, but it requires daily use. I want a permanent cure. So I am going I am going to try estrogen ear drops which are meant to enlarge the fatty tissue around the Eustachian tube (the autophony is caused by it staying open when it shouldn't.) I will update as soon as I try the drops.

No wax...lots of ringing
I have no wax but constant ringing. My ENT is not the best and told me he "was considering" that I may have Menieres Disease. He did no testing other than 3 hearing test. The no wax is not my big complaint, it is the constant ringing. Anybody else got this same problem?

This may help.......ongoing assessment of Tinnitis.
Thanks for this info. I have been analysing Tinnitis for awhile now and it seems:
1. it is not centered in the ears it is in the head above the ears.
2. lack of ear wax could be an issue as the wax may serve as a sound deadener through the ear canal.
3. relaxing certainly turns down the volume
4. lack of water may be a problem, dehydration of the brain.

Permanent Cure for Eczema in Ear
I cured myself with a thyroid medicine and an elimination diet.
I had severe eczema in my ear canals. I would scratch at it and get ear infections. I thought I would eventually become deaf. I was very afraid. So I researched all of it.
I had almost no ear wax. I also had dry skin, low morning body temp, intolerance of heat/cold, very slow hair & nail growth, and other signs of low thyroid. But my thyroid blood test results showed only a bit low, but still in the normal range.
To increase ear wax production and restore normal oily skin, I took a thyroid medicine Cynoplus, which is a T4/T3 combination. I now have some ear wax and oily (not dry)skin. Before all this, I was trying all kinds of natural soaps and shampoos, body lotions, etc as the solution. Now I can use any soap or shampoo and don't need skin lotion.
I also try to have more healthy oils in my diet -- olive oil, real butter, peanut butter, etc.
Also, to fully stop eczema flare-ups, I did an elimation diet of the most common food allergens (corn, wheat, tree nuts, coffee, alcohol, gluten, etc). I found that whenever I ate the smallest amount of corn (in any form, including high fructose corn syrup [found in MANY foods and drinks], corn starch, popcorn, etc) the eczema would start within 1-2 days. This happened even after I increased my ear wax by boosting my thyroid, but the eczema was very minor -- it didn't spread to the ear canal, just at the opening and went away quickly.
I have been free of ear eczema for three months now and also feel much better overall. The Cynoplus thyroid hormone T4/T3 also cured my chronic fatigue, brain fog, frequent depression, and slow wound healing.
Research/Google elimination diet and also the symptoms of low thyroid (hypothyroidism) -- and cure yourself permanently.
If you can't afford many doctor visits or expensive U.S. medicines, or you have a doctor who is unwilling to let you try thyroid hormones, you can try another doctor -- or order online inexpensive Cynoplus from a Mexican pharmacy and start at the lowest dose. You can also order U.S. blood tests via the Internet (without a local doctor), with blood taking labs in almost every U.S. city; the test results are emailed to you.
If you can afford it, it is best to see a doctor, ask for a hard copy of blood test results, and get a prescription for U.S. medicines. Remember that even if blood tests show normal levels of thyroid hormones, but you still have many of the low thyroid symptoms, you may need to insist that your doctor let you try thyroid hormone pills -- especially if you have serious problems like eczema in you ear canal and resulting, dangerous ear infections. See if T4/T3, or T4 alone, increases ear wax production. You will know in one week if it works.

These comments have helped me to relise that my no earwax, itchy, ringing ears isn't uncommon. Maybe my doctor should read this as she told me that it is all in my head the last time I went to her about it and that if I tipped scratching them, they'd stop itching! Does anyone know if natural oil would help-maybe Olive Oil put on with cotton bud? Tried Earcalm and various creams prescribed my the doc to keep me quiet, but not really helped. The cold weather and wind is a killer for my ears Sad

After a lot of itching and flaking, I finally realized I make no earwax in one ear, little in the other, which probably started after an ear infection 15 years ago. I'm 69 now. I tried antibiotic cream, fungus cream, and cortizone cream, one day at a time, using a Qtip. All helped a bit, so I kept rotating the cream used, with barely tolerable results. Then I saw a recommendation for emu oil. I bought a small bottle from Montana Emu Ranch to be sure of getting the real thing rather than something imported. Emu oil is working great, now I only need to use it occasionally. I have no more ear problem. Would be nice if someone would make a specific substitute for ear wax, maybe using emu oil.

Re: King1961
I had my thyroid removed in 2007 due to over-active thyroid disease. My blood tests are normal and I am taking T4 only. My ears stopped producing wax about 2 years ago and I have to use optic oil. I have very dry hair, skin and nails that have developed ridges. Also cold intolerance and now dry eyes! I am going to see a Dr. to inquire about T3/T4 combination. Thanks!

Wow, I also have Tinnitus and Low Corn tolerance and actually have had "cold urticaria". I would get sick the first cold spell of winter. With a rash and fever. Had this since i was a teenager. Thats when urticaria starts. I think GMO's are to blame.
Maybe? Any way i didnt notice the no ear wax till my last physical when the doc mentioned it. I have sinus problems ,but they are better with improved diet. I almost never eat corn & TRY to avoid corn surup products. I also take nine seperate vitamins to help with everything. I also kept telling docs I thought i had internal parasites. I had tummy rumbling and vaginal iitching(sorry to have to mention that). But serveral gynos including a team from Presbiterian in Dallas found NOTHING wrong. They would not test, but said no I did not have parasites or vd. I took some overthe counter pin worm pills and everything started to get better. I also did a heavy metal cleanse(pills from health food store). But have learned if you eat cilantro daily, it will eliminate metals and also help with inflamation. It's cheap too. I use to be addicted to NACHOS. I think eating so much cheese and chips started something. Any way clean your gut!
I had a yeast issue which doctors totally ignored. That is WAY better. I did a 6 week cleanse(ate only fresh greens for a week then slowly added stir fry ,made with organic evoo or organic coconut oil). Sugar and sugar substitues are the enemy! Good Luck yall and certainly the tinnitus & no earwax is connected. I wonder if the sinus meds had anything to do with all this. I devekoped Glaucoma after letting my doc give me a steriod shot back in the late 90's. NO one in my family has Glaucoma! I had a constant sinus infection . I live near the lake and corp property is behind me. Sometimes I think that maybe a deer tick got me. I shy from rx. Just don't need something that will give me something worse.
I also used to eat frequently at ON the Border. Wonder did they have something in the food? Whatever it is we all have in common, the medical professionals are not helpful, are they????

This is all so interesting. I just had my first visit to the ENT a couple of weeks ago for vertigo. I also have tinnitus and have had it for years. Further, he told me I produce no earwax and this is why my ears itch. He gave me a dropper and told me to put a drop of baby oil in each ear if it becomes too much of a bother. After reading all your posts, I am now concerned, since deafness runs in my family and I am already hard of hearing.

I have had this problem all my life and an ent thought it was Meniers disease. But now doesn't know what's causing it. But the oil does work. I use hemp oil from a place called Earthbound. They have a variety of smells, but it's veagan and safe if accidentally ingested will do no harm to animals and humans. And works great for other things like aches and pains from arthritis.
