My newborn - 8 days old - can stay at the breast for more than 45 minutes and still not seem fully satisfied (he never falls asleep after nursing, although he does become calmer)while after drinking pumped milk from a bottle (he drinks about 100ml or 3 oz each feeding)he falls asleep very easily. Is it because he isn't getting enough milk directly out of the breast? And if not, what can I do? I cannot be feeding him every hour for 45 minutes as he seems to need. And is there a problem with combining pumping with breastfeeding? For the moment it seems I have enough milk - I pump every 3 hours during the evening and night and get about 3-3.5oz out. Please advise.
