My anestheseologist's comment on fusions.

Yesterday I went in for an epidural and got the time to quiz my Dr about my condition and prospects. He made one comment I thought told me a lot about my quest to manage my pain and avoid a fusion.

"I know quite a few orthopedic surgeons and neuro surgeons who have back problems. Not a single one has had a fusion."

Food for thought for all of us.

True, you can't buy your way out of all the troubles that come your way. What is sad is that people CAN get better by other means but don't search it out and live a life of pain instead.

Famous examples:
* Jack Nicklaus with herniated discs doing Egoscue.
* Jerry Wayne a Broadway actor who had his disc removed, no fusion, in the 1950's or 1960's. He wrote a book "The Bad Back Book" about it. Her healed and was playing tennis with 30 year olds when in his 60's.

Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
