Menstrual cycle. What is normal?

Okay so just the other week I had my period for the second time ever. My first period mostly came out when ever I went to the bathroom to pee. This period thats the only time the blood came out except if I coughed some would come out on my pad. I dont think its my urine thats the blood because I pee and urine comes out then I have some blood to come out and im almost positive that it comes out from my vagina (I apologize for the gross details). So is this my period? Also it kinda comes out in clumps/clots. I've never been to a gynecologist my mom knows about my period and ive tried to wear tampons but I cant even figure how they should be inserted or where exactly. So is this serious I've never "done it" before either. If it is a serious issue please tell me gently and give advice on what to do. Also I do play sports so im very active if that could have any effect on it. Thanks and please only serious answers

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
It is difficult to comment on the exact cause for your repeat/second bleeding without examining you and going ahead with further evaluation. If you are not pregnant, the second bleeding that you describe could be induced due to coughing resulting in increase in abdominal pressure and pressure on uterus causing uterine contractions and endometrial separation. The exact cause can only be made out after careful evaluation. Consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist for further evaluation, clarification and assistance. Treatment as appropriate (based on examination findings and evaluation results) would be started to help you regulate your periods. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.
