menstrual cycle very light only lasting 3 days

I had my tubes tied Nov 2006, after having them tied my cycle became very heavy lasting for at least 7 days, passing very large clots. My period last month (2/3/14) Only lasted 3 days and was really light. This month was also very light only lasting 3 days and 2 days late. What could be causing this?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
If your periods have suddenly become light, and if you are sexually active without being on any other birth control measures, then chances of pregnancy could be possible due to chances of having spontaneous recanalization of the tubes. Other causes for lighter periods include thyroid abnormalities, hormonal changes, ovarian cysts, OCOS, endometrial changes, perimenopause, etc. The exact cause can only be made out after thorough examination and evaluation. Do not ignore your symptoms if these are recurrent or persistent. Visit your doctor/gynecologist for further evaluation, clarification and assistance. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.
