Menapause or miscarriage?

How do you know if you are going through menopause or miscarriage? I have 4 children already. I don't use any birth control methods because I wanted to get pregnant for last 3 years but it never happened. Few times pregnancy test showed positive but same day or next day I would start my period. So miscarried at very early stages with my normal 7 days period or sometimes with 10 to 11 days period. I am 46 and going through 17th day of period with clots. First 5 days only spotting and very light period than it started very heavy period with huge clots. Half a day break from heavy period down to normal in between on 12th day but started again. I did not feel pregnant at all before my 2 weeks late period this time. Since I always have been anemic in my life I take iron regularly but now I am taking 6 iron pills65g = 325mg Ferrous Sulfate everyday instead 3 that I usually take and drinking extra fluids to keep my self dehydrated. Instead of taking any pain killers(only took twice 600mg of Ibuprofen) I just rest most of the time my body feels the need to rest. I haven't seen any doctor yet because thought it is natural process let it take its course. Family members are panicking but so far as long I get plenty of rest I am feeling ok. Just wondering if anyone out there have gone through similar period how long it lasted? When would be the time of concern for me to visit my doctor? Anyone wants to share their experience? Thanks!

Thank you for asking at Ehealth forum!

I read your question and i understand your concern.
These seemed to be perimenopausal symptoms.
If you want confirmation then go for FSH assay on day 2-5 of menstrual cycle,if it was high then these are definitely due to perimenopausal symptoms.
I hope it helps. Stay in touch with your healthcare provider for further guidance as our answers are just for education and counselling purposes and cannot be an alternative to actual visit to a doctor.
