Masturbation and depression

Dear Madam / Sir,

I slept with a woman for the first time at the age of 23. I only 'learned' how to masturbate at the age of 24, and because I was brought up in such a protected environment, I was too embarrassed to discuss sexual issues with my peers at school. My parents never discussed sexually related matters with me. Since I first discovered masturbation and the euphoric 'high' that one gets from it, I feel my life has changed for the worst. Up until 2007, I was masturbating perhaps three to four times a week. Then I got an internet enabled cell phone and accessed porn sites on a frequent basis to 'add' to the high. The problem is that I cannot prevent myself from masturbating when I visit these sites.

My biggest concern about my sexual situation is that when I started masturbating about ten years ago, I started to experience severe mood swings following masturbation. When I felt 'down' for a certain length of time, I would masturbate to feel 'better'again. I have been on anti-depressants ( Cipralex ) over the past 8 years and I had such problems with my concentration that the psychiatrist put me on Concerta and diagnosed me with ADHD. I never informed him of my sexual concerns. Could there be a link between my depression / concentration problems and the chemicals released after masturbation ( oxytocin, serotonin, dopamine etc ). I am also concerned that my sexual situation has affected my relationships with woman i.e intimacy. My girlfriend was browsing through my cellphone and discovered my viewing history of porn sites.
My girlfriend didn't dump me but I felt very ashamed ( rightly so ) and I am no longer with my girlfriend ( not entirely for that reason ).

I really would appreciate your advice.

Kind Regards,

Masturbating a few times a week is perfectly normal and healthy. If you are doing it several times a day and it is distracting you from completing things in your life such as work, school etc. then yes it is a problem. There are people that get addicted to masturbation. From what you posted I don't think that it is a problem, however I am not an expert. A lot of people that were sexually repressed and undereducated about sexuality think that something is wrong with them when they have sexual desires and encounters including masturbation. I am sorry that you are going through this. It sounds confusing and frustrating. If you do think it is a problem you should get the advice of a Dr. Wish you the best.

hi paul76
masturbating is normal and healthy until you crossed the extreme level if you are masturbating regularly means you will face lot of problems physically and mentally it leads to the severe bend in pennis i.e peyronade disease and you will face the problem of pre mature ejaculation so better stop masturbating and i strongly advice you to go to doctor.if you feel shamed to go better you can take the koohinoor gold capsules for continuously 3 to 5 months that will give the better result dont feel very bad and dont keep away from your girlfriend it is not a big problem and masturbating is not affect you in getting child in future for further query replay me
