Lump on bottom of skull

User Profile
I gave my 22 year old son a hug tonight and put my hand on the back of his head and noticed a lump at the bottom of his skull. A little below the center of the back of head. It is hard and about the size of a marble. His uncle on Dad's side died of brain cancer. Should I be freak out about the lump. I asked him how long has had this and he does not know. I have never noticed it before. Should I be worried or is this normal?

There is a natural bony lump at the base of the skull, just above the neck (occipital protruberance). Perhaps this is what you were feeling.

In general, brain tumors do not erode through the skull.
