Lower abdominal cramps on period

I'm on my period,(semi- light) and am having really bad lower abdominal cramps. Also, when i go pee, I feel a pressure down there. This has never happened to me before even when I was pregnant. I am currently taking Azurette birth control. What does this mean?

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

Lower abdominal cramps during periods is common and is associated with uterine contractions and is called dysmenorrhea.

You might benefit by taking ibuprofen or naprosyn to control the cramps.
