Low white AND red counts (or high white AND red counts)?

I've been having symptoms of what could be some kind of blood cancer (or some other sinister disease illness) for 2 years now.

Whilst doing the constant (often upon waking at stupid times in the night/morning) research I came across information that points to blood cancers (like leukaemia)- but some information said that a high white cell count could be a symptom and another said that a low white cell count could also be a symptom.

So, is that right? As it's kind of confusing. High and low white cell counts could both be signs of blood cancer?

Are there different types?
