Lorazepam not helping anymore

I've been taking 0.5-1mg of Lorazepam for anxiety and it doesn't seem to do what it used to. What can I do instead to get anxiety relief?

The dose can be increased to 1 milligram twice a day or two milligram once at night in consultation with your doctor. Behavioural cognitive therapy psychotherapy and Group Therapy may help in reducing your dependence on drugs and should be given a try before before complete reliance on medications only

I've been taking up to 4 mg without my doctor's approval. I feel bad.
