Late period, many symptoms-am I pregnant

User Profile
I am 21 years old and went off birth control 3 months ago. This month, two weeks before my (30 day) cycle was supposed to start I started getting lower back cramps, a dull ache. My period is now two days late, I took a test this morning and it was negative. I have been very fatigued, nauseous, hungry all of the time but can barely eat anything, my breasts are a little fuller and darker areolas. I have been having period like cramps since two days ago just in my lower back, it feels kind of tight and is a constant ache. I have done a lot of research and read that it takes some women a week late before they get their positive result because of slow production of HcG. Is this true and could I still be pregnant? I just have a fluttery feeling in my stomach all of the time and have been bloated for the past week. Could I be pregnant and just have slow hormone production?

If you had sexual exposure around the weekend of Jan 13th there is a pretty good chance you are pregnant. Run another home test a week after the last using first morning pee. The hCG hormone is supposed to double every few days. Other signs might include lotion discharge, more frequent peeing, veins showing on breasts and flanks, sense of smell, food cravings, vivid dreams etc. Best of luck.

Thank you, I took a test this morning and it was again negative. Should I go in for a blood test? I’m just not sure why my body is changing so much with no period in sight.

The other possibility is that you have a messed up ovulation/ovarian cyst which is giving you a hormone upset and pregnancy signs. The fact that your signs started at ovulation time makes this somewhat likely. If you can't get a positive home test before your next period is due and the next period fails to correct the situation, a doctor visit would be in order. Blood tests are for those anxious to be pregnant and who can't bear to wait for a home test to show positive.
