In some cases, the white blood cell count can become depressed by severe infection. In other cases, a very low white blood count can occur first, and can predispose patients to infection.

If she has not been seen yet by an Infectious Diseases specialist and a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist, then it might be a good idea for her to be seen by these specialists.
