In the morning I usually have 2-4 bowel movements in a 1-2 hour time span. The bowel movements are normal and no stomach pain. It is only like this in the morning and it doesn't matter if I eat or don't eat. I don't seem to have this problem on the weekends when I sleep in. I just wish it would all come out at once and not have to go multiple times because it is an inconvenience. I feel like maybe there is something I need to take or eat to make myself more regular and just have one bowel movement.

Hello, and thanks for your medical question on e health forum.

Based on the history, inability to form a proper stools could be due to long standing constipation. Constipation in young adults is due to a stressed lifestyle with lack of proper eating habits, having more junk and processed food, rather than freshly prepared whole foods, low intake of dietary fiber and inadequate amounts of fluids.

You might consider adding enough fiber in your diet. Vegetables with high-fiber content (peas, beans, apricots, prunes, peaches, pears, plums, spinach), fresh fruits, dried fruits, and whole wheat, bran, or oatmeal cereals are excellent sources of fiber. To reap the benefits of fiber, drink plenty of fluids to help pass the stool.

Regular exercise (abdominal contraction exercises and leg raises) are also important in establishing regular normal bowel movements. Follow healthy eating habits including eating at regular intervals and avoiding skipping of meals.

For the time being you can use fibre supplements, Psyllium husk etc available over the counter to produce well formed stools. In addition drink enough fluids as well.
