is my period light because of stress?

User Profile
My period is lighter than usual. Same color and with blood clots. I didn't experience any cramps like I usually get nor any back pains.
I was under a lot of stress the last month which I think contributed to the fact that it's light, I also gained a few pounds in the past few months. I also thought it was late (My period is pretty regular, but i thought it was 2 days late) and took a home pregnancy test and it came out negative, same day (May 16)I got my period. Stress over being pregnant might have taken its toll on it too. My question is, is my period light because of stress and is there a chance I could be pregnant? I'm very confused, I am so not ready for a baby right now.

Welcome to ehealthforum.
Stress can affect your hormonal and period pattern but if you had been sexually active around your ovulation time (and if you are not on any regular birth control measures), the lighter periods and weight gain could have been indicative of pregnancy possibility. Wait and watch for your next periods. Look out for development of any new symptoms if pregnancy is suspected. Visit your doctor/gynecologist for further evaluation and assistance if you do not get your periods within 10 days of expected period dates, or if you get abnormal bleeding. If pregnancy gets ruled out, and if you are not ready for pregnancy, but intend to remain sexually active, you should consider visiting your gynecologist to get started on suitable regular birth control measures to be protected (after your periods). Be regular with birth control use as instructed. Avoid having unprotected sexual contact if not ready for pregnancy. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.
