I had unprotected sex with my partner on 5th day of her period when it was bleeding a bit. Is it safe to do so?? Are there any chances of she getting pregnant??

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
She becomes closer to her fertile days/ovulation time after finishing with periods. If her cycles are regular and of 28-30 days, her fertile days would lie between days 8-18 taking day 1 as first day of bleeding. If her bleeding had been stopping, or if fertile mucus had been present, sperms can stay alive for 5-7 days and fertilize the egg upon ovulation. Wait and watch for her periods/withdrawal bleeding. Look out for development of any new symptoms if pregnancy is suspected. She should visit her gynecologist for further evaluation and assistance if she does not get her periods within 10 days of expected period dates, or if she gets abnormal bleeding. If pregnancy gets ruled out and if you are not ready for pregnancy, but intend to remain sexually active, you should consider getting her started on suitable regular birth control measures to be protected (after her periods). She should be regular with birth control use as instructed.
Take care.
