Here in the UK a child starts formal education, depending upon the birthdate at around five years old.
The first school is the infant school and lasts for two years...
The infant school is often connected to a primary school that provides education for the seven to eleven year old kids and sometimes the primary school is completely separate - those two schools provide "primary education"...

At eleven years old, depending partly on examination results, partly on location or catchment area and partly on parents wishes/resources moves on to one of a variety of secondary schools for their "secondary education" until a mandatory age of sixteen is reached...
Such schools are...

Church or religious schools.
Technical or other types of school or academy.

A more formal or academic education is generally offered to higher achieving pupils by our grammar or high schools which are usually single sex (the others are co-ed).

These are examples of state financed schools but also offered are a number of private schools, strangely referred to as "public schools" for those who have the financial means...

High schools, grammar schools and public schools all offer an extra two years advanced education aiming the pupils at university or other types of specialised training...
Many other secondary schools also offer advanced education for those pupils who like or tolerate school discipline but many will opt for "sixth form college" instead or a course of training available at the many colleges of further education, technical colleges, polytechnic colleges and so forth...

Both primary school and elementary school are the same, the only difference lies in the preference of terms in different countries like Elementary school is the preferred term in some countries, particularly those in North America. Whereas Primary school is the preferred term in the United Kingdom, India, Ireland, Pakistan, Australia, Latin America, South Africa and New Zealand and in most publications of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.
