Inositol vitamin B8 for PTSD

User Profile
I am very interested in using Inositol vitamin b8 to help treat my ptsd which has caused depression and anxiety which is problematic. I researched quite a bit on the net for any possible side effects for men and got a lot of mixed information about it lowering testosterone for men. Does Inositol lower testosterone in men taking an above average dose for depression and anxiety. Thanks

Hi, and thanks for your query on eHealth forum!

There are better and safer methods to treat PTSD. Use of Inositol like drugs are not recommemded without the supervision of a medical doctor. Apart from affecting various hormones, it can also have unwanted affect on mood.

You can get tested to find if you have conditions like diabetes, low vitamin B and Vitamn D and low thyroid function. If you suffer from any of these then these can delay response to treatment of PTSD.

Please consult a Counselor and get proper treatment of PTSD. A mix of medication and therapies helps many overcome this problem or helps them learn to deal with it in a positive way.

Please consult your healthcare provider for further guidance. This reply to your query is just for education and counseling purposes and cannot be an alternative to actual visit and treatment by a doctor who can examine you. Hope this helped you in making an informed decision about your health. Take care!
