Infertility Due to Mirena

Well I recently been diagnosed with PID. And I read that a few side affects of the mirena in which I had removed a year ago, is infertility and PID. So what was the point of me getting it removed to try for another child, if the mirena has made me infertile? I had it for 4 years, and was ready to start again. But it has taken that away from me and now I can no longer have kids because of it. Thanks alot Mirena.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Do not self conclude by reading information. The symptoms and examination & investigation findings need to be correlated to arrive at conclusion whether you have suffered the side effects mentioned or not. PID can be treated. The underlying cause for infertility should be looked for to help you get started on proper treatment that will help with pregnancy. If you are not successful in getting pregnant within 3-6 months of removal of IUD, you should consider visiting your gynecologist/obstetrician for thorough evaluation and infertility work-up. Your fertility levels usually return within a year’s time after stopping with birth control use.
Take care.
