increase in floaters with flashes of light

I'm 22yrs old and about 2 months ago i had an increase in the amount of floaters. Ive never really had a problem with them before and only noticed one or two if i looked at something white for a long time, but now they seem to be everywhere. I've also noticed little flashing lights occasionally. Sometimes they are white and other times they seem to be light blue. I think they seem to happen when i move my eyes, but they only seem to last 1/2 a second to 1 second. They appear on the peripheral of the vision and the centre sometimes, and if i go to look at them they disappear.

I've been to an optitians and told him about floaters and little lights and he seemed to not be overly bothered. He said my eyesight was fine, although apparently i had something called optical stones (although i cant find anything on this on the internet), which he said wouldnt give me any side effects apparently.

Another thing i have noticed is that if i look at something bright it seems to imprint for longer than previously - e.g if i have my photo taken the flash dot hangs around for a while, or if i look at a computer screen i can see a box when i look at something like a white wall....hope that makes sense it is difficult to explain and i dont know whether i am just being overly paranoid about everything and focusing too much on that when usually i wouldnt notice it.

I also dont know if its related but i have really bad sinuses and sinus pressure and when this started i had sinusitis, which seems to have mostly cleared up. It's not due to bad headaches either, as although i do get migraines they have never resulted in lights or anything in the past.

i've read about Vitreous Detachment but this seems to be more of an elderly condition, can it happen to young people too? Wouldn't my optitian have noticed something like this?

I'm a major major hypocondriac and im worrying myself sick over what is wrong and getting overly paranoid, so if anyone has any help i would appreciate it thank you.

Floaters and Flashes
Ya I am only 16 and a few months ago I went to a doctor and he said that I have a Vitreous Detachment and now the floaters and flashes seem to be getting worse for me, but he said that my eyes were perfectly normal and yes I am HUGE worrier when it comes to stuff like this.

Experienced User
Hello,

I would HIGHLY recommend you seeing a retina specialist. Floaters/flashes can be signs of retina detachment. This is serious and must be checked. Early treatment is necessary if this is the case. I am not saying this is what you have going on, but I would check into it and be sure. This can happen to young people although more common in the elderly. My son is 20 years old and had spontaneous detachment! Please get a second opinion and get a referral to retina specialist!! GOOD LUCK & Take care!!

good news
hey, i have experience this floaters in june. i must admit this make me stressed. i have been to doctor and the give me vitrolent and vitamin pil. it didn't work. i am desperate. but until i find a chinese doctor ( modern nutritional chinese medicine) he said that the problem with the eye because your lever too weak. he said i must eat supplement food for lever. he said human must not sleep over 11 clock at night because when 11 until 1 a clock our body make a regeneration cell for lever. in 11 a clock you must already have lie in bed! don't do any activity, just lie until you sleep. he give me a tradisional medicine too. i try this and this is work! good thing!. my floaters much more less than before. so everyone who got floaters can go to modern nutritional chinese medicine it will help a lot. GOD BLESS.

Flashes and floaters in eyes
I too experience the same as you, I have the sinus infections also. I find it is worse when I am very tired. I was referred by my GP to a specialist who checked my eyes thoroughly and said they couldn't find anything at all wrong - my eyes were very healthy. I was made to feel like I had wasted their time. The official term the specialist used when he wrote a letter to my etter to my GP was 'odd'. So, I don't worry about it too much and now I try to get enough sleep!

Flashes and floaters
In any case of flashes and floaters thorough retina examination is necessary because those symptoms may be a sign of retinal break or even an onset of retinal detachment.
In case you are not able to have a dilated pupil retina exam you can at least upload retina photo for free assessment

Blue circle of light in eye
Hello, I am 23 years old and also get flashes and floaters in my eyes. I noticed them a few years ago and went to retna doc and neruogists. None of the doctors were able to tell me anything. I also get mirgraines but never had any visual sypmtoms like the ones I am experiences. Last week I was reading and saw a small light blue circle of light that lasted for only a sec or few. That was the 1st time I had ever seen anything like that and I am now worried it could be a symptom of a brain tumor. Has anyone experienced anything similar to that blue light? Also, around the time I started seeing the floaters in my eyes I was seeing a chiroprater who really messed up my neck. I am not sure if the flashes and floaters have anything to do with my neck and brain.

FLoaters
Well Worried 12 ,
I dont really think you have a Brain tumor Because there are other symptoms they go with it . As for you floaters they can cause many different things in your vision you have to try not to focus on them . Ive had floaters for a long time and it started with only one floater 20 years ago now i have many .I get my eyes checked every year and they say that they are more annoying then serious . I cant take a picture because the flash lasts like 20 min I understand what you are talking about because I have seen simalar things that last a few seconds .BUt you have to really try to stop thinking about them and you will not notice them as much . Get good sleep eat Vitamins for the eyes and drink a lot of water it helps. As for your migraines its your age i had them through out my 20s your body reacts in certin ways when it needs something ( vitamin D ,b, pottassium water ) So if you know you dont eat right this can be the cause of your headache. So here is my advice go to your doctor get a clean bill of health and relax remember you are 23 you are strong and healthy so dont worry start worrying when youre 80.. OK I hope I have helped you .
Good Luck

Eye Floaters and Blue Flashes
I have had floaters for years and according to the doctor who did my last eye test my eyes are much younger in condition than my age of 55. They aren't a big problem unless I am looking a white page or pale blue sky then they seem to be more prominent. I also have blue flashes at times and can't find any reason for them except I too at times have sinus problems. So I've decided the possible pressure from the sinuses causes them and I don't worry.

I have the exact same symptoms as the original poster and my sinusitis was found in the exact same way. I have found countless other people online with these symptoms and they all have sinusitis.

nasty eye floaters developed recently
Hi all!
I am 33 female and I have had floaters in my eyes for about 10 years now. I have had allergies in the eyes and itching might have made them. But about 2 months ago, a doctor increased the dosage of my thyroid medicine to twice and messed up my system. I have developed hashimatos and have had eye symptoms such as pain in the left eye, sandy view, tiredness, not seeing clearly, etc. I have gone to two eye doctors; one a retina specialist and both said my eyes were fine, none came up with a solution to dry eyes or these symptoms. They said I had allergies and gave me allergy drops and tear drops. But about 2 weeks ago I saw 3-4 new floaters in my left eye which are very annoying. I feel like there is hair all over my eye, and 2 blackspots. They follow when I work on the computer, which is the most annoying part. Can dry eye syndrome cause them? I have been crying a lot and have had nervous breaks. Would they cause this too? Is there a cure for them since they developed recently? Any drops to supress them? Please help me, I am already paranoid about the hashimatos disease and what the doctor did to me and these spots drive me crazy. Can't work on the computer, want to sleep or stay in a dark room all the time and not go out not to see those floaters. Please please help, I am open to all suggestions.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
PS: My left eye feels different too. More watery and blurry all the time and sometimes like there is sand in it. I dont have any flashes.
