Am I Pregnant Answer A24232
Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
The emergency contraceptive pills (ECP) work in preventing pregnancy if taken within 48-72 hours of the unprotected sexual contact. Since it contains high doses of hormones, it can disrupt the normal hormonal pattern, and cause bleeding and period abnormalities. Wait and watch for her periods. She might also have withdrawal bleeding which usually occurs after about 5-7 days of taking the ECP.
If she develops symptoms suggestive of pregnancy, or if she misses her periods, or if you suspect her to be pregnant, she should consider visiting her doctor/gynecologist for further examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately).
Take care.
