implanon stopped my periods, now i have brown dishcharge?

User Profile
Hi, I'm 18 and very sexually active with my boyfriend. I went on the pill in 2008 (not because I was a 'busy' girl but I wanted to be protected just in case) and it stopped my periods, then in early 2010 I had the 'Implanon' rod put in, and I've continued not to have a period. Although, the past few weeks I've been getting this brown dishcharge, I'm not in any pain or discomfort and its fine for a few days then light brown, then dark brown, then light again and fine again for another few days. I don't have an STD as far as I'm aware cause I've only had one sexual partner before and we were both virgins and used condoms, whilst the same applies to my boyfriend. He always 'cums' inside me, and I wash everytime after we've had sex. I'm afraid to have sex with my boyfriend now and even for him to come too close. Please help me out! :S

Welcome to ehealthforum,
The brown discharge that you describe could be suggestive of possibility of PID, vaginal infection, pregnancy, hormonal changes due to prolonged hormonal birth control use, etc. The exact cause can only be made out after thorough hormonal analysis, blood HCG test, vaginal swab/smear test etc. Treatment options as appropriate would be started to help you based on your examination and investigation results. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any unusual symptoms immediately. Take adequate rest. Drink plenty of water. Maintain healthy diet. Avoid vaginal douching, use of harsh soap or perfumes in the area. Use loose cotton undergarments and avoid tight fitting clothes. Since you are sexually active, get your partner also treated simultaneously to prevent chances of re-infection and avoid having intercourse while being on treatment course.
Take care.
