I normally have a really heavy flow...

User Profile
We are trying to concive our first baby. My cycle was due 4/20. I tested with a hpt on 4/19 and got a negative. later that night I had some bright red spotting when I wiped. I though my cycle had started a day early so I placed tampon in and went to work(I work nights) I later changed it and there was nothing on the tampon. The next day (about 24 hours after the first spotting) I went to the bathroom and wiped and had more bright red blood (the whole tissue where I wiped) So I placed another tampon in and agian checked later with no blood. today I have had some light brown color tinged with red on the tampon that I slept with in. I have had no cramps. I normally have a really heavy flow needing to where both pad a tampon to prevent leakage and normally have severe cramps. I have not taken another hpt. Do you think that I could be pregrant or is something else happening?

Thank you in advance for answering my questions

Welcome to ehealthforum,
The lighter and altered bleeding, absence of usual abdominal cramps, could be few of early symptoms suggestive of pregnancy. Urine pregnancy test kits usually start showing you positive results after about 20 days post-conception (roughly corresponding to about 1 week after your missed/altered periods). Observe if the lighter bleeding turns into periods within next 5-10 days. Look out for development of any other new symptoms if pregnancy is suspected. If periods do not start within 10 days of expected period dates, or if you get abnormal periods, or if you suspect chances of pregnancy, consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately). If pregnancy gets confirmed, go ahead with getting serial HCG levels estimated. Doubling up of the hormone levels in 48-72 hours will show that pregnancy is going on smoothly. If levels are not adequate, then external hormonal supplements would be considered to be started to help you in preventing miscarriage/threatened abortion. Visit your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for further evaluation and assistance. Early ultrasound scan (usually transvaginal scan) after 6-8 weeks of gestation will also help to confirm gestational age of fetus/baby along with viability. Look out for danger signs like increase in intensity of abdominal cramps, increasing back pain, fresh bleeding etc. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Take adequate rest. Drink plenty of water. Maintain healthy diet.
Take care.
