I have gout, one ankle is ore swollen than the other

Hi,

Doctor diagnosed gout as my uric acid level is high. I went to see the doctor because my ankles were swollen, he prescribed allupurinol, but so far after 3 weeks my ankles are still swollen and painful, but whats weird is that my right ankle is more swollen than the other. Any explanation?

In acute gout flare urate lowering therapy should be avoided. NSAIDS and colchicine can be advised to counter the acute arthritis and then uric acid lowering can be employed via febuxostat and allopurinol to reduce exacerbations of gout.
