I am a teen mom and can tell you... (Page 1)

Okay, so looking through this form I seen way too many topics, way too many that said 16 & wanting a baby, etc. The question I ask is, why?? Why would you want a baby at such a young age?? I understand unfortunately it happens, but why try? I am 18 years old now and I became pregnant at 16 (most certainly, not trying) my boyfriend and I were being stupid, not using protection and of course, I became pregnant. I have a beautiful amazing little boy and I love him more than life itself, but being a parent at such a young age is the hardest thing I've ever done.
You completely miss out on your teenage years, graduating from high school became 10x harder and hanging out with your friends became a thing of the past (along with sleep!)
Not to mention, the health risks involved. Teenage pregnancies are at a higher risk for high blood pressure called pregnancy-induced hypertension, They also have a higher risk of preeclampsia. This is a dangerous medical condition that combines high blood pressure with excess protein in the urine, swelling of a mother's hands and face, and organ damage. Other risks involved in a teenage pregnancy can be, premature birth, postpartum depression, and low-birth weight baby.
I am a young mother, I have to work 2 jobs to support my son, and pay the bills. I have trouble going to college because i cannot find the time, I have been going to a community college, but struggling. I have been very fortunate with support and opportunities, but parenting at such a young age, when your still only a kid yourself can be the most difficult thing someone can do. Parenting itself is a very hard emotional roller coaster no one is ever 'fully' prepared for.
My point is, why purposely put yourself, and your unborn child into that type of situation? I do understand, things happen, mistakes are made and young girls become pregnant (not to say a baby is ever a mistake, a child, no matter what situation, is always a blessing) I was one of those girls, but I just don't see why a young girl would want that to happen, at such a young age.

I have some pregnancy questions, im 17, & 16weeks pregnant, i have a supportive family and boyfriend. But everyone talks about how being pregnant is such a wonderful thing when to me its a huge stran on my body and i am exhausted ALL THE TIME, food seems like the enemy, i throwup after i eat(not on purpose), and have been strugling with constant headaches, im a senior in high school, due 2 weeks after graduation, but being pregnant makes it impossible to make it through my day, i havent been to the doctor yet, but am going on Jan, 19th. any advise or suggestions ?

Emily, I understand your troubles believe me, pregnancy is a HUGE strain on anyone's body, but it also is a wonderful thing at the same time, because at the end of all that hard work you have a little miracle in your arms. Fatigue is definitely something that happens, I remember during my first trimester I would come home from school and completely crash because I was so tired, but don't worry it should eventually go away, along with the stomach upset after eating, although I cannot guarantee anything all pregnancies are different I am just sharing my experiences. Unfortunately for me the headaches never seem to 'really' go away. If it is really difficult getting through the day I would suggest some type of homeschooling. After I had my son I did a program for about 6 weeks called home-bound where I had a teacher come to my house for 3 hours a day, 2 days a week. I don't know what programs your school offers but I would definitely look into it. Just make sure you graduate, you will have so much more trouble in the future if you decide to drop out and find another alternative. Also, make sure you get to the doctors as soon as you can, you really should be getting your prenatal vitamins. Hope it helps and good luck!!

Daisy, talk to your parents, it's times like these where they really step up and show you what they can do. If there not supportive there are so many places out there willing to help you, you just need to find them. Find your local family planning/planned parenthood and talk to them, they will help you. I knew a friend who got pregnant when she was only 13, she has a wonderful 3 year old son now and is a great mom. I promise you, everything will be okay you just need to talk to your family.

Lexxi, if your dad throws you out, you won't have much of a choice but to move in with your boyfriends family. Legally you can become emancipated from your father going through court, but you must be able to prove you can take care of yourself, have a stable home/job, ect. If you do that, your father will not have control of you anymore. I'm pretty sure though, even if you live with your boyfriends family, legally your dad will still have custody of you.

confused,

I wont have a job, and i dont have my license either, thats my fathers fault, i know he can transferr custody so she can (michaels mom) take care of my medical stuff and enrolling me in school and stuff, and she would be resposible for supporting me financially.....but i dont think my father would go for that plus id have to have my mothers agreement as well (parents have joint legal)(they're divoriced) and i dont know if they would imacipate me even though id have a place to live, and i dont mind if he has custody but can he force me back home if he changes his mind after i've givin birth, and i cant take the baby?

The child is in your custody, your father cannot do anything with your child. Until your 18 though he does have legal custody of you. I suppose if he really wanted he could have you move back home, I would suggest talking to him and letting him know that you think it's in yours and your child's best interest if you lived with your boyfriends family.
