Hello and welcome to e health forum.

Presence of a fever means your child has an infection, usually caused by a virus. Most fevers are good for sick children and help the body fight infection

It is very usual for young kids to get infected with common cold viruses during seasonal changes or when they are exposed to carriers or infected individuals.

It does take at least a few days to a week for the infection to subside. There should not be any panic or worry.

Give cold fluids orally in unlimited amounts (reason: good hydration replaces sweat and improves heat loss via skin).

Acetaminophen or motrin syrups can be given if the fever is recurrent or higher than 102. The goal of fever therapy is to bring the temperature down to a comfortable level. Remember, the fever medicine usually lowers the fever by 2° to 3° F (1 - 1.5° C).

Home remedies can ease the discomfort and soothe coughing for some infants. a humidifier or a vapouriser can help to clear stuffy nose and provide relief. Proper hydration with fruit juices, water etc can help to keep proper nourishment and provide energy.

Mucus from the nose and sinuses drain down into the throat, which can cause coughing. Elevating your baby's head slightly as she sleeps helps with the drainage problems and can relieve some of the coughing.

In case the fever is above 104° F (40° C) repeatedly or persists beyond 72 hours or the symptoms appear to worsen, you should consult with your pediatrician for proper and timely help.
