How easy is it to spread to other places on your body?

User Profile
A while back I had an extreme outbreak of over twenty oral ulcers and the ER doctor believed it was Oral Herpes and said it would be confirmed if I had another outbreak. I am in my second outbreak currently, but my question is:

How easy is it to spread to other places on your body?

I have become so paranoid about spreading it that I fret if I accidentally touch my face, or worry that I'll spread it further on my face because I washed my face with a cloth. I even use hand sanitizer BEFORE using the restroom because I do not want it to spread down there. Am I being overly paranoid or do I need to be this worried and cautious? At current the outbreak is only inside my mouth and the inside edges of the lips.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
First of all it needs to be confirmed whether the outbreak that you describe is infectious like herpes or multiple aphthous ulcers. If it is confirmed as herpes then it could spread with direct contact or contact with body fluids. If it due to aphthous ulcers, it would not spread. If you are having repeat outbreak visit your doctor/healthcare provider at the earliest for thorough examination and evaluation. Treatment as indicated (based on examination findings and investigations results) would be started to help you. You may also consider taking second opinion from an Infectious disease specialist. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/healthcare provider and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.
