True. Self-realization is the first step to stay away from smoking. Also, learning about its hazardous consequences both, on health and relationships further helps in quitting.
Indulging in daily exercise, eating and drinking healthy and avoiding people and situations that trigger cravings, too help.

If you want to stop smoking, you can make small changes to your lifestyle that may help you resist the temptation to light up. You might have given up before, but tell yourself that you’re really going to do it this time. A US study revealed that some foods, including meat, make cigarettes more satisfying. Others, including cheese, fruit and vegetables, make cigarettes taste terrible. So swap your usual steak or burger for a veggie pizza instead. Fizzy drinks, alcohol, cola, tea and coffee all make cigarettes taste better. Talk with your doctor about nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to help deal with cravings. The nicotine nasal spray and the nicotine inhaler are available by prescription. However, some types of NRT, including patches, gum and lozenges are available over-the-counter (OTC). If you feel like you're going to give in to your tobacco craving, tell yourself that you must first wait 10 more minutes and then do something to distract yourself for that period of time.
