My blood pressure is usually around 140/90 and I have been taking a medicine called HCTZ 12.5 mg tablet once a day to help that and it gets down to around 130/80. Is that reasonable or should I ask for something stronger yet?

Thank you for asking at Ehealth forum!

I read your question and i understand your concern. Even 140 systolic is not that high and should be managed with diet lifestyle modification. medications come in when blood pressure goes above 140 systolic and 90 diastolic. Salt restriction and more exercise and reducing caloric intake is mainstay.

I hope it helps. Stay in touch with your healthcare provider for further guidance as our answers are just for education and counselling purposes and cannot be an alternative to actual visit to a doctor.
