Herpes from swimming pool or sauna/steam room?

I would like to know if herpes can be spread through swimming pools or by being in a sauna/steam room? I sat down on my own towel and dried myself with it. Please advice. How about any other STDs?

Hello, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease and transmitted through kissing, vaginal, rectal and oral sex. It cannot be transmitted through swimming pool or via sitting on toilet seats etc. Hope this helps. Take care!
