Hello and welcome to e health forum.

Hernia repair materials vary in the material they are made of and hence the duration they remain in the body also varies.

Mesh products made of polypropylene are nonabsorbable and they remain in the body indefinitely as a support structure.

Mesh products made of biodegradable materials, when used to reinforce soft tissue during hernia repair usually last only upto six to seven months. These biodegradable products are absorbed by the body and replaced by regular supportive connective tissue as time passes.

Hence you would have to contact your surgeon who operated you for your hernia or go through your medical records so know which type of mesh was used in your case.

I hope this helps.
