First off, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I am 38 years old. Had an inguinal hernia surgery (with mesh) when I was 20. Have been symptom free all these years and have kept myself active with weight training and martial arts.

When training in martial arts we are required to do 180-degree side splits (side stretches) to help improve kicking ability.

My question: Would the side split dislodge the mesh or cause other complications to the mesh? I would go slow but just wanted an expert opinion.

Welcome to ehealth forum.

Since the procedure was done nearly 18 years back, the mesh and the site must have completely healed and you should have no issues with continuing with your martial arts training.

The chances of any complications or mesh dislodging would be less likely.
