So the first time i had a Hiatal hernia attack i knew it was my stomach as it started hurting a bit and got worst and worst until i pulled over at the mcdonalds, curled up in a ball in a booth and had my wife go get an anti gas/acid from the nearest pharmacy. The pain was so severe that i started wondering if i was having a heart attack. She brought me something back, i took it and bam my pain was gone. Like in maybe 60 seconds. I went from not being able to breath normally or talk to havinf just the memory of the pain that made me actually wonder if i was dying. I have averaged about 1 or 2 attacks per year. I have since had a CAT scan and been diagnosed with the hiatal hernia. So not to keep you in any more suspense, its Immodium. Simple immodium knocks out my attack usually within 60 seconds. My last attack was particularly bad and i have gained about 20 lbs in the past year and wonder if that is what made it worst nipple twister ever. My immodium has expired and didnt knock it out as quickly this time... about 5 agonizing minutes this time, i think. BTW, i tried Pepcid AC and it takes 30mins to work, but it did work. Anyway, that works for me and i hope it helps some on here. Please let me know if you tried it and whether or not it worked for you.

Thank you for asking at Ehealth forum!

I read your question and i understand your concern. Hiatal hernia usually respond to diet lifestyle adjustments, losing weight, small frequent meals etc. But if the symptoms persists surgical correction is mainstay and should be opted for as soon as possible.

I hope it helps. Stay in touch with your healthcare provider for further guidance as our answers are just for education and counselling purposes and cannot be an alternative to actual visit to a doctor.
