hair started shedding at the beginning of depression

User Profile
A few weeks ago I suffered from a bout of depression. During that time, I had trouble sleeping, lack of appetite and would cry randomly. It only lasted about a week max, but my hair immediately started shedding almost at the beginning of it. I'm now back to feeling like my happy self but my hair is continuing to shed excessively. There's no bald spots or patches, just all over shedding. At least 10 or more hairs come out after I brush it. I'm taking multivitamins everyday and keeping healthy now, I'm just wondering when it's going to stop because it is really annoying me. I can't wear my hair down. I'm also 19, female. Thanks

Thank you for asking!
Depression episodes at such a teen age is really bad thing and can be avoided with lifestyle modifications and a good healthy routine and social activities. Lack of appetite might be the trigger for this hair loss. ANd 10 hairs in one hair brush is not that much. Evey normal women while brushing hair gets that much hair to shed. Simple maneuvers like loe traction on hair while ribboning them, avoiding combing wet hair and and avoiding using dryer on wet hair is advised. Get some hair moisturizers and conditioners for the hair. And get to a dermatologist to sort out any suspected cause of alopecia if any which i am sure it won't be. Just good routine and habits will get you out of trouble. Dont forget the importance of good and proteinaceous diet.
Take care
