I am a 41 yr old female. single mother of 2 boys, ages 17 and 4. I am a legal assistant - very stressful job. anyway my question is - i have a bad habit of checking my pulse alot because i feel like it is high alot. it has been around 85-95 for 3 or 4 days - most of the time except sleeping. i have had an ekg, a stress test, and a chest xray in the past year. my doctor put me on lexapro and it made me really nervous and more anxious. wondering if you have any suggestions as to what i need to change or what could be making my heartrate so high? it's not always this high but usually when i check it in the morning it is or when i check it too much. sometimes when i check it, it is in the 70s so makes me wonder if it's anxiety or could there be something else wrong? i just don't understand if i'm hypothryoid why i would have such a high heart rate. my tsh lately was 7.5 last time i had it checked. sick of worrying about it. even had my hormones checked - dr. said i'm not perimen

Anxiety and Stress Answer A17859
Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

Slightly lower BP can cause tachycardia or high pulse rate. It can also be due to anemia, hyperthyroidism (in your case ruled out), fever, low blood sugar, anxiety and panic disorder, heart causes like sinus tachycardia and palpitations, alcohol, coffee, effect of certain drugs etc.

Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP to run tests and examination to clinch a diagnosis. Hope this helps. Take care!
