My 10 y o daughter has started her cycles. Dr.Mathur had clarified that it is normal now a days for girls that age to start msnses. But, I want to know how is growth affected after start of the cycle. Whether she will keep growing normally now. Is there anything we can do to keep up / increase her growth. Welcome to ehealthforum,
Yes it is normal to start menstrual cycles early now. The age of attaining menarche (having first periods) is changed and has come down to about 9 years now. Do not worry, your daughter will continue to grow normally and have natural growth during her pubertal years. Continue to maintain good diet possibly with high protein and make sure she has active lifestyle and exercises incorporated in daily life.
Take care.

Dear Doctor,

my daughter is 14 y 6 m now. Since last 1 y 6 m her height has stopped increasing. She is at 4'11" since then. I am 5'10" and her mother is 5'3" tall. Pl. advise whether we can do something to help her increase her height. What are growth hormones ? Can they be used in this case.
