four days late, but I took two pregnancy tests

User Profile
I have been on lo estrin since may and have taken it every day at the same time. A few weeks ago I was put on antibiotics for something I had, but continued to have unprotected sex. The last month or two, I had been getting my period about a week earlier than the scheduled time. This month, I haven't even started and really show no signs of it. I am four days late, but I took two pregnancy tests and they both came out negative. Is this something I should be worried about?

Welcome to ehealthforum,
You should have considered using additional protection during intercourse while being on the antibiotic use. Antibiotic use affects efficacy of the birth control pills. The effects from antibiotics can last for about 10 days after the last dosage of antibiotic taken. Unprotected intercourse during this time or during antibiotic use can put you at risk for pregnancy. The symptoms that you describe could suggest pregnancy possibility. The urine pregnancy tests done early in pregnancy can show you false negative results as the kits are calibrated ones, so unless the hormone levels in urine reach a certain level, they do not show positive results. The urine pregnancy test should always be done on early morning first urine sample to get accurate results (pregnancy hormone HCG is believed to be in highest concentration in this sample, and you should avoid lot of fluid intake and caffeinated beverages in the night before taking the test). If you have got abnormal periods, or if you suspect chances of pregnancy, consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately). Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Take adequate rest. Drink plenty of water. Maintain healthy diet.
Take care.
