Folic acid for infertility?

User Profile
My fiance and I have been trying for a baby for 2 years now and I can't seem to get pregnant. When we first started trying I did fall pregnant, however I miscarried at 8 weeks. I have recently started taking folic acid as a friend recomended it, though I'm not sure if this will work. I am also a smoker, but I am in the midst of stopping. I really want a baby more than anything. Could I - or my partner - be infertile? Any sugestions?

Infertility Answer A11015
Hi,

Welcome to the ehealthforum. I am glad to help you out. Regarding your primary infertility, various causes responsible for it are stress, age, taking up alcohol or certain drugs that causes infertility, food, coffee, medical causes may be due to problems in ovulation, tubes, uterus, cervix, endometriosi s,pituitary, hypothalamus, hormonal imbalance or problems in male genitourinary tract. Exact cause for difficulty in conceiving can only be diagnosed by investigations to weed out the various possibilities and then confirming a diagnosis. I would suggest you to consult a fertility expert as both you and your partner need to be investigated thoroughly.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
