few days in the middle of the month has turned in to 3 weeks

User Profile
I started getting mid cycle bleeding last Oct, went to my GP
she did a swab for infections and did a internal exam, no smear as I had one done a few months previously. So bloods and swabs were clear, she refered me to the hospital who said it was just hormonal ( noexamination ) but they would send me for a d and c encase which I am not waiting for. What started as bleeding for a few days in the middle of the month has turned in to 3 weeks this month of on and of bleeding and bloody discharge when i wipe after peeing. Some times its dark brownosh red but there has been bright red as well, I have noticed i have more discharge than before from mod cycle to my period. Sometimes its there when i pass a stool and for some reason when I drink alcohol I notice it. Mabe this is just a coinscidence. Im extremely worried- can hormones cause this much havoc or should i be concerned - other wise im v healty no losing weight no pain or anything, would be so greatful for some advice.

Hi, and thanks for your query on eHealth forum!

Well the two most common cause of inter menstrual (between periods) spotting/bleeding are pregnancy and birth control pills. Other causes are hypothyroidism, cervical dysplasia, cervical polyps, cervicitis (infection/inflammation of cervix), vaginitis (infection/inflammation of vagina), cervical and uterine cancer, uterine fibroids, hormonal imbalance as in polycystic disease of the ovary, use of blood thinners, genital ulcers, STDs and stress.

I think you should discuss these possibilities with your gynecologist. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. Take care!
