After unprotected intercourse on 4th october, I took an emergency pill within 17 hours. My periods came right on time on 12th oct. My next period came on time on 12th nov, but was a day shorter than normal. I had an ultrasound and a urine test on 23rd november both of which were negative for pregnancy. However, I have been feeling nausea throughout the day, an on-off throbbing pain in my left breast, and slight cramps from time to time. I am really confused, and scared. Help would really be appreciated.

Sexual Health - Women Answer A29145
Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
The emergency contraceptive pills work in preventing pregnancy if taken within 24-48 hours of unprotected intercourse (provided you were not sexually active without protection after taking the ECP). The symptoms could be attributed to hormonal changes during menstrual cycle and your body’s response to them. If you suspect chances of pregnancy consider getting a serum/blood HCG test done to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately. Consider being in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet and lifestyle.
Take care.
