family dr gives me misinformation on HSV1 and HSV2

User Profile
I have had oral herpes since I was small. My family doctor is hard to talk to and gives me misinformation. Example he would not let me go on birthcontrol as a teenager because it would make me infertile. When I was sexualy active in my 20s he told me my birth control would be fully effective within half an hour. I was also refused a simple HIV/hep test because he deemed me as not high risk. I work in an industry where blood is present. The list is honestly too long and gets worse. Last outbreak I had when I was 15 and my doctor refused to believe I was not having oral sex. I was not. Despite the fact the swab test came back negative he told me because the first drugs I was put on did not make the sore disapear that it was HSV2. Is it likely something I contracted as an infant is hsv2? The walk in doctor I have beenseeing says no. I know Im getting carried away by the stigma. My walk in clinic has told a blood test is not necessary since Im not having break outs and it is not covered.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
Since your work involves interaction with blood/blood products, you should consider getting screening test done for HIV, HBsAg, and other blood borne STDs. HSV can spread through other means also. If worried, discuss with an Infectious disease specialist and get thorough evaluation done to rule out any active infection. Look out for development of any new symptoms. Be in regular follow-up and monitoring of your doctor/healthcare provider and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately.
Take care.
