Early Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms Question

User Profile
Last month I had my period the first week and the last week (it has happened like that before)but the last week was abnormal. Very short and light. Lately I have been feeing full all the time and my stomach keeps sticking out more and more. Even after a few bites I still feel full. This month I have not had my period yet but I also figured that it would be to early. The only reason why I am asking whether or not it is possible if I am pregnant is because I have taken several PT's before and they are expensive and I am just afraid that I will be wasting my money again. I would like some kind of confirmation before I decide to take another one. What do you think?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Shorter and lighter periods and the recent symptoms that you describe could be few of early symptoms suggestive of pregnancy. Wait and watch for your next periods. Look out for development of any other new symptoms if pregnancy is suspected. If your usual periods do not start within 10 days of expected period dates, or if you get abnormal periods, or if you suspect chances of pregnancy, consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately). Sometimes you can keep getting false negative results with urine pregnancy test kits during early pregnancy as the kits are calibrated ones, so unless the hormone levels in urine reach a certain level, they do not show positive results. Urine pregnancy test kits usually start showing positive results after about 18-20 days post-conception (roughly corresponding to about 1 week after your missed/altered periods). The test should always be done on early morning first urine sample to get accurate results (pregnancy hormone HCG is believed to be in highest concentration in this sample, and you should avoid lot of fluid intake and caffeinated beverages in the night before taking the test). Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately.
Take care.
