Welcome to e health forum.

It is common for many women to occasionally have variations in their periods (like delayed onset, missed periods, reduced or scanty flow, reduced no of days of bleeding, excessive bleeding, increased duration of bleeding, etc).

Such changes occur due to physiological change in pattern of secretion of hormones including estrogen, progesterone and gonadotrophins from the hypothalamus. Factors that can precipitate such changes include severe stress, eating disorders like bulimia, infections, etc.

In such cases, if the repeated pregnancy tests are negative, then pregnancy can be effectively ruled out. In most cases, the next scheduled normal periods usually begin around the expected dates. Hence there should be no need to worry. Taking time to rest and relax and reduce your stress levels will be very helpful.

If you have extremely severe anxiety and symptoms like persistent nausea, missed periods, heightened sense of smell, bloating, etc and the suspicion of pregnancy is high, your should consult a doctor for a blood test and or a ultrasound which will give conclusive information and clear all doubts.

Presence of bleeding and pain after sex can be a sign of vaginal tears due to traumatic sexual intercourse. A doctors examination will be necessary in such cases to prevent infections and any form of scarring.
