Those medicines are birth control pills. There are no other medicines that can do that.

I have never heard any drug that causes infertility. Birth control might cause you NOT to get pregnant.

Tictactalk, it is exactly what hormonal birth control does - it makes a woman infertile while she takes it as directed. She does not ovulate or menstruate and she does not have the normal hormonal cycle or cervical mucus pattern - in other words, she is infertile while she takes it.

Temporary and Permanent Birth Control Drugs
Birth control pills (like Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Brevicon, Yaz) are designed to *TEMPORARILY* render a women infertile, so she can have sex without getting pregnant...until she wants to. They are carefully designed NOT to be permanent.

There is no drug approved by the FDA to *PERMANENTLY* render a women sterile. Quinacrine does this but it has not been proven safe to the satisfaction of the US FDA. It is used in other countries. It is not taken orally, but is inserted into the uterus.

There are also many drugs that will *SOMETIMES* render a women infertile, but this is a side effect. They don't ALWAYS render a women sterile, and they do lots of other things. Examples are chemotherapy drugs and large doses of testosterone.

If you want to make sure you as a couple are PERMANENTLY unable to have children, the safest way would be for you (the man) to have a vasectomy. If you are in the US or India there are organizations that may help you pay for this. Make very sure this is what you want first. Also, if English isn't your first language, make sure you understad the meaning of the word "permanent", and have someone who is fluent in English explain the above posts to you, and the little disclosure sheet the doctor will likely give you.
