Dont know how to tell partner about genital warts diagnosis

About 2 months I was incorrectly diagnosed with genital warts. I was suspicious of having them, went to my regular obgyn and she examined me and applied vinegar to the suspicious areas and nothing! So she told me it wasnt genital warts and perhaps just irritated hair follicles since i shave in that area. So she sent me home and i continued my regular sexual activity with my bf of 10 months. I decided to take a look down there again and sure enough the bumps seemed to still be there and this time, there were more! I went to my moms obgyn to get a second set of eyes in that area and she said, without doubt, that i had genital warts. She freezed or burned them off (not sure of the correct wording on that method). But now my concern is that i have now passed this onto my bf and i dont know how to tell him without hom assuming i have cheated on him or was just plain careless and promiscuous in the past! Please help with ways of telling him about my condition! Thank you for reading!!

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Women do not have the HPV virus in them, they usually get infected after sexual intercourse. Men are usually asymptomatic for a long time and it is likely that you got it from your partner. If he is your only sexual partner, you can inform him about it and ask him to get a screening test done to see if he is having the infection. Both should get treated simultaneously to prevent re-infection and increase in viral load. Avoid having intercourse during the outbreaks. Consider getting regular and periodic PAP smear tests done to monitor cervical changes due to the infection causing high risk for cervical cancer.
Take care.
