do I resign myself to recurrences?

User Profile
I have diastasis recti - (65 yr old man) - after 2 surgeries I have another 2 hernias, but due to my health issues surgeon recommends no mesh but another patch - is there an alternative medical approach to care for this condition or do I resign myself to recurrences and more surgeries? I find this rather depressing - can I work on this condition through nutrition?

Hello,
Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. I do understand the pain and agony which you’re going through.

A good protein rich diet does play an important role in the healing of the wounds. It’s extremely important to avoid chronic cough and constipation, if one has to avoid the recurrence of the abdominal hernias.

Well, abdominal bands are available for patients who don’t want to undergo surgery or are unfit for the surgery due to any reason.

However, these binders should be used only after consulting a surgeon as there’s a small risk of intestinal obstruction after using these binders. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
